Being a volunteer – making a difference
Conservation volunteers make an important contribution to conservation in New Zealand and we’d like to thank all our volunteers from New Zealand and overseas for your help. Volunteers help with many different conservation tasks such as bird counts, habitat restoration, weed control, pest control and trap & track maintenance. What you do depends partly on your skills and fitness level. This brochure lists opportunities for conservation projects with the East Taranaki Environment Trust. The projects are practical ones and offer you opportunities to meet others, to learn new skills, do useful conservation work and enjoy the outdoors. Being a volunteer is fun! You also get to work as part of a team, share your skills and learn new ones, and experience conservation in action. The projects all have conservation value. They could not be done without your help. Most activities are single day activities. Unless otherwise specified, volunteers are required to provide their own transport, food and personal equipment. For long term projects we still welcome those that may be able to attend for only one or two days. These projects run over the entire summer and regular help with these is appreciated.
• Provide volunteer opportunities so the community can assist in the conservation of East Taranaki Environment Trust’s natural and cultural resources;
• Provide opportunities for people to safely experience the values of the natural environment;
• Enable conservation tasks that otherwise would not have been done, to be completed through the assistance of volunteers.
